Photo requirements
These summaries are based on published Australian photo requirements. Always check the current guidance from the relevant authority before applying.
Australian passport
- 35–40 mm wide × 45–50 mm high photo (we prepare 35 × 45 mm)
- Face height 32–36 mm from chin to crown, centred, facing straight on
- Taken within the last 6 months; you need 2 printed photos
- Plain white or light grey background that contrasts with your face
- Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open, head not tilted
- No glasses, unless they can't be removed for medical reasons
- Religious head coverings must be plain, with your whole face visible
- No retouching — moles, wrinkles and scars must not be removed
- Print on heavy-weight glossy paper (200 gsm+) using dye sublimation
Australian driver licence / photo ID
- Sit up straight and look directly at the camera with your eyes open
- Don't smile — neutral expression, mouth closed
- Remove all glasses and sunglasses, even if you need glasses to drive
- Hair must not cover your face, particularly your eyes
- No hats or novelty wigs; religious or cultural headwear is allowed if your whole face is visible
- No shadows cast on your face
- Exact requirements vary by state and territory, and none publish print dimensions — we prepare your photo to common Australian ID framing (35 × 45 mm)
